Ebola Is Airborne | University of Minnesota Researchers Claim

English: Transmission Electron Micrograph of t...Just yesterday the Wild4Roots website posted an article raising questions as to whether the public was getting accurate information in regards to the transmission of the Ebola virus. Citing a study conducted in 2012, the Wild4Roots website gave a link to a study where it was demonstrated that the Ebola Zaire virus was able to travel between pigs and monkeys that were in separate cages and were never placed in direct contact. While the current strain of Ebola is not Ebola Zaire, according to the CDC this virus is genetically 97% similar to the Zaire strain.

Needless to say, it came as no surprise to us at the Wild4Roots family when we perused through the internet this morning and found the University of Minnesota report as a top headline.

Here is what the University of Minnesota had to say regarding Ebola. “University of Minnesota CIDRAP scientists are now warning both health care providers and the general public that surgical facemasks will not prevent the transmission of Ebola. According to the airborne Ebola report, medical workers must immediately be given full-hooded protective gear and powered air-purifying respirators. CIDRAP has reportedly been a worldwide leader in addressing public health and safety concerns and preparedness since 2001.”

What the U.S. Army Has to Say about the Transmission of Ebola

A handbook published by the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, USAMRID, titled “USAMRID’s Medical Management of Biological Casualties Handbook,” that is now in its seventh edition clearly warns that the virus could be an airborne threat in some circumstances.

It seems that the issue of whether Ebola is an airborne transmitted virus is turning into a question of semantics.

It only makes sense that if Ebola can be transmitted though droplets of mucus, saliva, vomit, and blood, then if those droplets become airborne (projectile vomiting, sneezing, etc) they would contain the virus and could potentially be inhaled by another person leaving them at risk of developing the deadly disease.
